Setup and Use Chromecast On Mac
Previously, it was possible to Setup Chromecast on Mac by downloading the Chromecast App to computer and completing the entire setup process directly on a MacBook.
Apr 05, 2020 Casting is a method of projecting or sending content wirelessly to a different screen such as your television or second monitor. Once you set up your Google Chromecast device, you can play any content from your mobile device or desktop on your TV or remote monitor, with the device becoming a remote control. It saves you the painful hassles of hooking up your PC to your TV using an HDMI cable. It's possible to connect a second (or third) display to your Mac. Here's how to use a second screen with your Mac or MacBook, including finding the right adapter and cable.
However, Chromecast App is no longer available for download on Computers and currently the only way to Setup Chromecast Device is by downloading Google Home App on a Mobile Device.
Once the Setup process is completed, your Mobile Phone and the Home App is no longer required to project media from MacBook to TV using Chromecast.
With this understanding let us go ahead and take a look at the steps to use Chromecast on MacBook.
1. Attach Chromecast Device to TV
The first step is to attach Chromecast Device to your Home Television.
1. Plug in the HDMI End of Google Chromecast Device into the HDMI Port of your Home TV and Plug the USB End of Chromecast to USB Power Adapter (See image below).
2. Next, use the Remote Control of your Home Television to change the Source Input of your TV to match the HDMI Port (HDMI 1, HDMI2….) into which the Chromecast device is plugged-in.
Note: On most Remote Controls you can change the Input Source by pressing Input or Source button.

If you use Google Chromecast, then you know that it mirrors your display from a device like your Android, iPhone, Mac, PC, iPad, or a Chromebook. Mirroring means exactly what you would think. It is having another device show your screen the exact same as it is on your mobile device or computer. This is not the only thing you can do though.
You can also extend your desktop and not just mirror it. This is a very useful thing to be able to do because it gives you an entire extra desktop to use. It is basically being able to double the space you have to work with. This doesn’t come without a little effort on your part though. This article will have directions for Windows 8 and Windows 10 PCs as well as directions for Macs.
How to Extend Your Desktop from Your Windows PC with Chromecast
This set of directions will work for both Windows 8 and Windows 10 PCs when trying to extend your display. You can follow these steps for both versions.
1. In your Start menu, you need to select Settings. You can also right click on Display Settings on your desktop as a short cut to display settings.
2. In your Settings, you need to go to System (Display, notifications, apps, power).
3. In the display settings menu, you need to click on Detect. You have to make Windows think that the 2nd display is already attached when it very clearly isn’t yet. It should say Display not detected but will also have a blue screen that you need to click on.
4. You need to find the Multiple Displays area and click on the drop down box. You need to choose Try to connect anyway on VGA.
5. Now, you need to choose display 2. Then, in the drop down box you need to select Extend these displays. Click the Apply button and a message will pop up saying Keep these display settings? You need to click Keep changes.
This will prepare you to use the extra display and extend your desktop surface using your Chrome browser and Chromecast.
1. You need to start by opening Chrome on your PC.
2. You need to click the small arrow in the same area as the Chromecast icon which is in the top right corner of your Chrome browser window. Then, you need to scroll to the Cast screen/window (experimental) option and select it.

3. Choose display number 2 as the Cast screen/window, which is the one you set up just a few moments ago.
You should be able to see your Windows desktop on your computer and your TV screen now. You can now use your extended desktop to move open windows, open programs, and even applications between your computer screen and your TV screen.
How to Extend Your Desktop Using Chrome
The easiest way to do this on a Mac or a PC would have to be using Google Chrome’s built in Chromecast service. Since they are both owned by Google, they have made it easy to just use the two of them together. To be able to use the Chromecast service you have to have the newest and most up to date version of Google Chrome.

When Chromecast first came out you needed to download an additional addon to be able to do this, but now it comes directly built into the newest version of Chrome which makes it much easier. Once you are sure that you have the newest and most up to date version of Chrome you need to follow the following directions.
1. First, you need to open Chrome and click on the menu button in the top right corner of the browser window, then click on Cast in the menu.
2. Wait just a moment for the Cast To box to appear and choose the drop down menu.
3. There will be two choices. One is Cast tab and one is Cast desktop. You need to choose Cast desktop.

4. That will take you back to the main Chromecast menu.
5. Now, you need to select your Chromecast device.

6. A pop up window will appear with a Yes and No option and you need to click Yes.
7. If you are using a Mac, your desktop should be extended now on whatever screen your Chromecast is plugged into.
You should note that the sound will not be extended to the new screen and you will still only be able to hear it from the speakers on your Mac. There may also be a delay in the second display, so be aware of that as well. This is functional but not made directly for this purpose and does come with the small setbacks mentioned here.
Using Chromecast As Second Monitor
That doesn’t mean that this is not a great tool to use. It is truly hard to mention them because they are such sleight setbacks in the first place.
